Ace sports journalist John Vigah of the Ghanaian Times Newspaper on Thursday launched his latest 170 paged book, ‘Sparkles & Shambles at the International Press Center in Accra.
The event was attended by some of the shakers and movers of Ghana Sports.
Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) commended the prolific author and urged the present generation of young journalists to learn how to report on positive news that would encourage partners and sponsors, than the 5% negative news that tarnish the image of Ghana Sports.
Mr. Kwabena Yeboah, President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana expressed that John Vigah has set the pace of inspiration for other sports journalists to chronicle events of tournaments for the sake of posterity.
Dr. Affel Monney, President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) said the author was a born journalist as his father was also a journalist who excelled in the profession.
He appealed to the sports media to lead in the recovery process after Covid-19 has hit the world.
Lepowura Alhaji M.N. D Jawula who chaired the function said football is for making friends and not creating enemies.
He said stakeholders can disagree but at the end of the day sports must be the winner.
John Vigah who started journalism in 1993 called on sports journalist to be circumspect in their reportage as they write the truth.
The award-winning journalist called for professionalism, creativity and accuracy in reporting, and appealed to corporate Ghana to support journalists who wish to publish their works.
He hinted that his third book on Ghana’s full participation in the FIFA World Cup in being worked on and would be released soon.
Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe who announced that copies of the book can be bought at the Methodist and Presbyterian Book Depots, Ghanaian Times as well as the International Press Centre.
Among the dignitaries who graced the launch were Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah and Mr. Ahmed who represented the Minister of Youth & Sports, Mr. Kudjoe Fianoo, chairman of GHALCA, a representative of Mr. George Afriyie, former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. George Lutterodt, former President of Ghana Athletics Association, PRO of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Charles Amofa who represented the Director General, Prof. Peter Twumasi, members of SWAG and Friends of John Vigah.
