The special voting exercise for the 2024 general elections officially began on December 2, with the Ablekuma Central constituency among the active participants in the process.
By 6:20 a.m., Electoral Commission (EC) officials had arrived at the polling station, and a significant number of eligible voters were already present, eagerly awaiting their turn to cast their votes. The EC set up the polling station at 6:33 a.m., and by 6:48 a.m., the seals on the ballot boxes were officially broken under public observation. The inspection of the ballot papers followed promptly at 6:59 a.m., ensuring transparency and integrity throughout the process.
Among the notable figures present were Jefferson Sackey, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Ablekuma Central constituency, who expressed his hopes for a smooth and peaceful election. Frank Onero, spokesperson for Abdul-Latif Dan, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, also shared similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of a legitimate outcome to the entire election process.
The special voting exercise is designed to allow over 130,000 individuals—including Electoral Commission staff, media personnel, and security officers—to vote ahead of the main election day. This ensures that they are available to fulfill their official duties on the general election day.
