The Aeronautical Information Service Association of Nigeria AISAN says the role and importance of Aeronautical Information data has changed significantly with the implementation of Radio Navigation RNAV/RNP an airborne computer based navigation system.

AISAN National President Babatunde Shittu Speaking to journalists on the essence of World AIS day celebrations in Lagos, noted that the systems were all data dependent while aeronautical data has become critical components of the system.

He stressed the importance for the completion of the AIS automation adding that the International Civil Aviation Organisation ICAO has developed a road map to reflect the importance of the evolution and to address the required changes which was being referred to as transition from AIS to ATM.

According to Shittu, there was a global concept to accommodate the rapid changes in the role of AIS from services mainly based on manual involving papers to digital base for more efficiency.

Shittu announced that this year?s World AIS May 15 day will be held worldwide while it will be observed in Nigeria in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
