Student remanded for defiling minor

A 20 year old student was on Thursday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl at Nungua in Accra.

David Mensah charged with defilement pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku remanded Mensah into Police custody to reappear on March 27.

It further ordered Mensah’s father to produce his son (accused person) birth certificate at the next sitting.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the mother of the victim is the complainant in the matter.

Chief Inspector Atimbire said Mensah resides in the same vicinity as the complainant and the victim at Nungua-Buade.

The Prosecution said on February 27, this year, the complainant detected a sudden change in the way the victim walks.

When the complainant quizzed the victim over that, she disclosed Mensah had, had sexual intercourse with her.

Prosecution said the complainant reported the incident to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit (DOVVSU) unit of the Police Service at Nungua where a medical form was given to her to seek medical care for the victim.

Soon after submitting the Medical report form to the Police, Mensah was arrested and arraigned before the court.
