Ahaji A.B.A Fuseini, Deputy Northern Regional Minister, has advised assembly members to support district chief executives in the development drive of their respective assemblies for the creation of jobs.
He said there was the need to put a stop to the endless conflicts that were affecting the area?s socio-economic development to pave way for the government to continue with its “Better Ghana Agenda.”
Alhaji Fuseini gave the advice in Tamale at the weekend during a day’s leadership workshop for assembly members in the Northern Region.
The programme, which was organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, was to build capacities of the assemblies in the decentralisation process.
The event was on the theme: ?Building Capacity for Effective Local Level Leadership.?
Alhaji Fuseini said it was necessary for assembly members to support their DCEs to fight poverty, ignorance, diseases and illiteracy to ensure peaceful coexistence.
He appealed to the assemblies to be committed to their assigned duties in line with the District Assemblies’ Guidelines and in collaboration with the DCEs to push the local governance agenda forward.
Dr Callistus Mahama, Head of the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), told the GNA that there was the need for assembly members to be able to build and maintain interest in the assemblies’ activities on the local level to enhance community development.
