The Supreme Court has postponed its decision on an injunction application seeking to halt Parliament from forwarding the anti-gay bill to the President for approval.
Once the bill is approved by the President, it becomes law.
In a reassuringly unanimous decision on Wednesday, a five-member apex court panel, led by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, opted to defer the ruling. They explained that the decision on the interlocutory application would coincide with the judgment of the substantive case, challenging the constitutionality of the bill’s passage.
Chief Justice Torkornoo, in a commitment to ensure clarity and understanding, emphasized that this approach would allow the court to provide clear guidance on the constitutional issues raised in the lawsuit.
“The decision is deferred pending the outcome of the substantive suit,” Chief Justice Torkornoo stated.
