Dr. Charity Binka, Executive Secretary of the African Media and Malaria Research Network, and a dedicated member of the African Catalyzing Action for Nutrition (AfriCAN), made a point of the critical importance of journalists understanding the identity issues within the communities they report on.

Speaking after a comprehensive three-day training session on nutrition, organized by AfriCAN in Ho, the Volta regional capital, Dr. Binka urged journalists to delve deeper into the cultural fabric of their audience.

She emphasized the need for journalists to tailor their messages with cultural sensitivity, ensuring they resonate with the values and beliefs of the communities they serve. “Understanding the cultural nuances of your audience is paramount. It’s about crafting messages that truly connect and resonate,” she explained.

Dr. Binka also encouraged media practitioners to focus on highlighting positive narratives within their reporting. “By shining a light on success stories and positive developments, journalists can inspire and empower their audience toward positive action and change. This approach fosters a more constructive dialogue and contributes to the overall well-being of the communities their reportage covers.
