President Akufo-Addo in his first term in office tagged 2020 as the “Year of Roads” where he promised to embark on an aggressive road development across Ghana.
The President again in 2021, delivering his inaugural speech after having been sworn in to commence his second tenure in office pledged to prioritise road construction to ensure that a significant number of roads across the country were tarred.
The government’s plan to develop the road sector is on course as the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis (STMA) in the Western Region witnesses massive rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads within it.
The reconstruction works are expected to ease traffic congestion in the areas and improve accessibility to the market and the Central Business District (CBD) for high economic growth in the region.
The project would see the rehabilitation of Anaji Excess Lodge road, New Takoradi road near the Youth Center, Amaja area roads near SIC, Kokompe No. 1 Scraps area, Mrs Asmah road – Beach road, Protea Hotel roads – Africa Beach Hotel roads and GHACEM Club House road – Mrs Cudjoe Junction road.
The rest are Timber Bar and Nasiriyah School roads, Essikafo-Ambantem No. 1 and 2 roads, Presby Quarters road, Airport Ridge (Uncle Ebo Coker) areas, Bank of Ghana – Railway Hotel, Mexico road and Kwesimintsim Trotro Station road from Aponkye Nkrakra area road.
The reconstruction works are currently being done by JUSTMOH Construction Limited, an indigenous and award-winning construction firm in Ghana.
It will also involve the asphalting of a community park at Essikafo-Ambantem No. 2 and resurfacing/reconstruction of Justmoh road (Accra Station area), 11/11 area road, Takoradi Hospital and Circuit Courts near Harbour View roads, GBC road and Effia-Nkwanta Laboratory road.
Speaking in an interview with Newsghana, Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Takoradi Constituency said the road upgrades will reduce transportation costs and reduce traffic congestion for all in the Metropolis.
