The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday commended the government of Tanzania for its efforts to transform healthcare delivery.
“Tanzania is doing well in transforming healthcare delivery, particularly in maternal and neonatal care,” said Lawrence Oundo, the UNICEF’s acting representative for Tanzania.
Oundo said this commitment was crucial in addressing the significant challenge of maternal mortality, which continues to claim many lives due to preventable complications during pregnancy and childbirth.
He made the remarks during the official handover of the newly constructed and renovated three health centers in the Dodoma region’s Chamwino, Chemba, and Bahi districts.
The renovated health centers have 50-bed maternity wards, postnatal care units, modern laboratories, and theatres to ensure every woman and child receives the critical care they need.
“The UNICEF reaffirms its commitment to working with the government and partners to support sustainable delivery of quality maternal health services through these new health facilities,” said Oundo.
