Tanzania’s National Electoral Commission (NEC) on Wednesday announced schedule for collection of nomination forms ahead of the Oct. 28 general election.
NEC said in a statement that nomination forms for presidential and vice-presidential candidates will be issued from Aug. 5, 2020 at NEC headquarters in the capital Dodoma.
According to the NEC schedule, nomination forms for Members of Parliament will be issued from Aug. 12 to Aug. 25 at NEC headquarters and district councils across the country.The nomination forms for councilors will be issued by respective ward offices throughout the country from Aug. 12 to Aug. 25, said the statement.
NEC said in the statement that forms for all elective positions must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. on Aug. 25.On July 21, NEC announced that the country’s general election will be held on Oct. 28.
It said in a statement that campaigns for the election will start on Aug. 26 and end on Oct. 27, a day before the election.
According to the NEC, about 29 million Tanzanians have registered to vote in this year’s election, compared to some 23 million voters registered in 2015. Tanzania has a population of about 57 million.
