The first batch of a total of 10,000 Chinese tourists will arrive in Tanzania in May this year, according to a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) and Touchroad International Holdings Group of China, an official said on Tuesday.

Under the MoU signed last December, the Chinese firm will market Tanzania’s tourist attractions in China and bring to Tanzania at least 10,000 Chinese tourists in 2019.

“The first batch of 312 tourists, which is expected in the country in May, will comprise of Chinese celebrities, journalists, tour operators, investors and business personnel,” TTB Board Chairman Thomas Mihayo said in the business capital, Dar es Salaam.

Mihayo was speaking during an event to welcome a delegation of seven Touchroad officials led by Touchroad Chairman Fu Wei.

In January, Touchroad launched a campaign, called Tour Africa New Horizon, to attract more tourists to African countries, including Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Djibouti.

Touchroad’s Fu said his Group has also signed an MoU with Air Tanzania Company Ltd on flying Chinese tourists to different attractions in the east African country. Enditem
