Tanzanian President John Magufuli on Saturday ordered the Tanzania People’s Defense Forces (TPDF) to take over construction of a 4,269,000 U.S. dollars housing project for prison officers.
A statement made by the Directorate of Presidential Communication at State House in the business capital Dar es Salaam said the president handed the project to the army following the slow-pace implementation of the project by state-owned Tanzania Building Agency (TBA).
“TBA has failed to implement the housing project for prisons officers on time despite the release of the fund by the government,” President Magufuli said shortly after he had inspected the project.
“TBA and the Prisons Department should get away from the construction site to allow the army to start work without delay,” said him.
Magufuli said TBA in collaboration with the Prisons Department was assigned to construct the houses two years ago but the two institutions had been lax in undertaking the project.
The project that involved construction of 12 buildings has reached only 45 percent of implementation. Enditem
