Tanzanian Minister for Home Affairs Mwigulu Nchemba on Monday ordered traffic police to revoke driving licenses of bus drivers found causing road accidents more than once.

“Bus drivers found having caused more than one road accident should his driving license be revoked. Such drivers should never be allowed to drive even a tractor,” said Nchemba at a meeting of Singida Regional Roads Board Fund in central Tanzania.

The minister made the order against a backdrop of road accidents reported on daily basis in the east African nation. The accidents were claiming tens of hundreds of lives of innocent people.

In March this year, Tanzanian President John Magufuli expressed shock after a road accident that killed 26 people.

“I have been shocked and saddened following news of the deaths of the 26 innocent Tanzanians,” Magufuli said in a statement by the Directorate of Presidential Communication at State House.

In December last year, the Tanzania traffic police said road accidents in the country declined by 43.9 percent from January to November 2017, compared to the same period in 2016. Enditem
