Tanzania’s Zanzibar president launches e-procurement to improve services

E Procurement

Tanzania’s Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi on Saturday launched e-procurement saying the new system will improve procurement services and payments.

Speaking during the launch televised live by state-run Zanzibar Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), President Mwinyi said e-procurement will cut red tape and improve transparency in government procurement services.

He said the new system should start to be applied in the 2022/2023 financial year that starts on July 1, 2022.

Mwinyi said red tape in procurement has resulted in complaints from tenders, businessmen as well as investors but the e-procurement will end all these complaints.

He said the government was in the processing of reviewing procurement laws with a view to improving them.

Saada Mkuya Salum, the Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Finance and Planning, said after the launch of the e-procurement, no procurement will be done through paperwork.

“Today Zanzibar is migrating from analogue to digitalization that intends to restore integrity in procurement,” said Salum. Enditem
