Merifest instituted by the former Metropolitan Chief Executive; Mr Kempes Papa Nii Ofosuware, was characterised by cultural display by the various ethnic groups within the metropolis.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, said although President John Dramani Mahama was invited to grace the occasion, his inability to attend the ceremony was due to his busy schedule and not because of his disregard for the people.

He said President Mahama would leave no stone unturned to pursue the good of the people.

“This is the reason the President is busily building all the infrastructure that abounds for all to see,” he said.

He said the Head of State would do everything possible to ensure peace during this year’s election.

He urged the people of Tema to continue to live in peace with one another as the Metropolitan Assembly strives to promote brotherliness.

The highlights of Merifest was horse riding by the chiefs of the Dagomba and Gonja communities amidst the firing of muskets.

The Ewe and Asante communities also graced the occasion.

The Paramount Chief of Tema, Nii Adjei Kraku II, was the special guest of honour. In attendance were the Tema Sakumo Wulomo, Assembly members, Chief fishermen, and students.
