The Tema Region of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has initiated a comprehensive project to sanitize its customer and asset database.

The effort aims to streamline work processes related to the installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of assets and address issues with unregistered meters and customers not receiving bills.

The project commenced in the Nungua District, is now underway in the Ashaiman District, and will extend to other districts within the region.

It involves tagging downstream assets with unique QR codes, such as low-voltage poles, building structures, and meters.

This process will facilitate accurately updating customer information within the ECG network.

Charles Obeng, the project manager and Director of Project Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation at ECG, explained, “An inventory and tagging of assets throughout the district is being carried out to ensure accurate records and effective management of district assets.”

Obeng urged customers to cooperate with ECG personnel visiting premises as part of the project.

He also noted that service personnel, interns, and some military members will be involved in the fieldwork as part of their study experience with ECG.

The project will enhance revenue collection and reduce system losses by incorporating previously uncaptured customers and assets into the ECG network.
