Tema Community 8 No.3 school held its first-ever graduation ceremony for Junior High School leavers who wrote the just-ended Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The male students were 25 and female students 34 and the total was 59. The theme for the program was ‘With Determination, Hard Work, Zeal To Excel’.

The school’s headteacher, Miss Diana Amoah, said it was the first time bringing together BECE candidates to celebrate the successful completion of their 9 years of schooling, since the school’s establishment more than 50 years ago.

According to her, the Tema Community 8 No.3 school is a public educational institution whose students perform creditably in science and creative arts and design. She appealed to the general public to assist in building an art gallery for the school so that they could display their art talents. She acknowledged the old students and their support in moving the school forward.

She further called for the provision of lights and security personnel to boost safety on campus.

Recently thieves broke into the head teacher’s office and made away with a fridge, computer, and cash.

Miss Diana Amoah appealed to the government to come to their aid to address their pressing needs.

Touching on the election of 2024, she advised the students to desist from political violence and exercise their franchise with dignity.

Hon. Ebi Bright, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Tema Central, also added her voice, urging the students to adopt the character of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah – the spirit of patriotism.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah was an ordinary citizen, but he was proud of his country, and that made him who he became. She elaborated on the 24-hour economy, the flagship economic policy by the former president and flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama. She assured the students of the policy’s potential to revive the socio-economic development of Tema, the city known for its heavy and light industrial companies.

In conclusion, the first vice chairman of the NPP, and chairman for Tema Sub Metro, Mr Sylvester Yankey congratulated the students and the teaching staff for grooming the students for three years and completing successfully. He further said the free SHS has come to stay and is a game changer, encouraging the BECE candidates to take advantage of it to further their education.

He echoed the Tema sub-metro’s resolve to assist in strengthening security situations at the school.
