Teshie Installs New Mantse

A long search for an occupant of the black stool of Teshie is over. The search for a worthy occupant of the black stool had led to violent conflicts and upheavals leading to the lost of precious lives and the destruction of properties worth several millions of Cedis.
In view of the protracted chieftaincy dispute, Teshie is plagued by abject poverty and under-development as compared to the neighboring towns of La-Nungua.

Teshie has a daunting literacy rate with about 65% of children within the school-going bracket out of school, most of the indigenous adult population is unemployed and the citizenry remains vulnerable to attacks by all manner of preventable diseases.
This bleak picture gave cause for concern by the government of Ghana and other diplomatic actors operating within the West African sub-region.

Speaking at a news conference to announce coronation of a long awaiting and legitimate chief to steer the affairs of Teshie black stool, the Dzase of Teshie Nii Ashikwei Kwaobotwe II hinted that on November 19,2011,all the six stools of the Ga state were elevated to paramountcy status at a colourful ceremony at the Guggisberg Memorial Hall at Dodowa. These stool include La, Teshie, Nungua, Ngleshie Alata, Tema and Osu Traditional Areas.

He said by the close of 2013, all the new paramountcies had been inaugurated. Teshie had effectively been left behind in the new development paradigm.
Nii Dzase lamented that the celebration of the 28th anniversary of the death of Nii Ashikwei Akomfra III, presented A unique opportunity for the Teshie Traditional councils to meet under the auspices of the LEKMA Chief Executive to search for a home grown solution to all the barriers which threaten the attainment of a paramountcy status by Teshie.

He explain further that a 12 member committee was setup to look at the way forward which he chaired including: Nii Ashong Akporh-Adjei I, Nii Adjetey Okpey III, Nii Klu Anum III, Nii Okang Duamro Nmashi III ,Nii Sowah Sese, Seth Adjei Sowa, Nii Nortey Tuaka II, Stephen Martey Laryea, Nii Klu Adjei I, Emmanuel Sowah Laryea and Reginald A.Kwei the secretary to the committee to bring in fact findings for the resolve of Teshie chieftaincy dispute.
Contrary to what had been agreed earlier on by all members of the committee, that the final report shall be binding on all the parties, Nii Ashong Akporh-Adjei I and Nii Okang Duamro Nmashie III refused to sign the report.

He stressed that be that as it may, the merged Teshie Traditional Council proceeded to work frantically towards the installation of substantive Teshie Mantse to speed up the processes for the inauguration the paramountcy status of Teshie.

Nii kwaobotwe II stated that the kingmakers have put a worthy royal on the Teshie black stool as the new Teshie Mantse for which his stool name is Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III.The new Teshie Mantse Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III hails from the royal lineages of Lenshie and Krobo Quarters of Teshie, his parents were the late Nii Ashai Odametey of the Amarh-fio enclave of Ashitey We and Naa Dokuyoo Sam-Sowah of the Nii Ashia enclave of Nii Klu-Din We.

?We the traditional rulers will have to lead in terms of development for our people because we are the eyes and ears of this people so if we don?t lead in development they wouldn?t know how development is going to come to them,? he said.
