History of the church
Reverend John Anderson built this magnificent building during 1837 A.D.
He arrived in India from Scotland and was the first missionary, who propagated about the love and blessings of Jesus Christ.
Reverend Anderson started a school for educating the people and this was done in a rented premises. This place was later converted into a college.
Reverend Anderson died in the year 1855. Four years after his death, a church was constructed on the site, where he first started his service of teaching the people. This church has been named after Reverend Anderson. It was dedicated to his hard work and his selfless service to the people of India in the name of God almighty.
The first convert of this church was Reverend P.
Rajagopaul. The name of Reverend Anderson is mostly associated with the church and not with the school, which had been founded by him.
This church has become one of the most important landmarks of the city and that of the Madras Christian College. Even today, the soaring steeple is the main attraction of Parrys corner/George Town Area. It is known for its service towards humanity.
