Thirty-eight reportedly killed in Egypt tour bus crash

accidentThirty-eight people were killed on Friday in a collision between two tour buses near Egypt’s resort town of Sharm al-Sheikh, state-run newspaper al-Ahram reported online

Forty-one people, mostly Egyptians, were injured, according to the report. The injured included four foreign nationals – two Saudis, a Ukrainian and a Yemeni.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear.

The buses were carrying holidaymakers when they collided around 50 kilometres from Sharm al-Sheikh in southern Sinai, local media said.

Serious road accidents are relatively common in Egypt and have often been blamed on poor driving and bad roads.

Nearly 13,000 people die and 60,000 are injured every year on the country’s roads, according to official figures.
