The Ghanaian international Thomas Partey believes that the intense competition in Arsenal’s midfield could propel the club to its first Premier League title in 20 years.
The Gunners have been close challengers to Manchester City in recent seasons, narrowly missing out on the title by two points last season. They aim to end their trophy drought by the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign.
Partey, 31, highlighted the quality and depth of midfield options available to manager Mikel Arteta as crucial factors in Arsenal’s potential success against formidable opponents like Manchester City. Despite facing setbacks due to injuries, which caused him to miss 29 games last season, Partey remains determined to secure his place in the team.
“We have a lot of players in that position. Jorginho is playing well; I am playing well. Dec (Rice) is there, and Martin (Odegaard) is too,” Partey mentioned in an interview with Hayters TV. “We also have other players who can come in and make a difference. We have to compete against each other, and at the end of the day, the Mister (Arteta) decides.”
The midfielder emphasized the positive impact of such healthy competition within the squad, stating, “With this kind of competition, we can get to the level we want to be at. It doesn’t matter who plays. I think the most important thing is the team achieves their objective.”
Partey’s optimism reflects Arsenal’s renewed determination to harness their midfield strength and depth effectively. The club aims to challenge for the Premier League title and return to the pinnacle of English football after a lengthy wait.
