At least three family members were killed and 11 others critically injured in a Thursday fatal head on collision road accident in the western Ugandan district of Kabale, a traffic spokesperson in the region said.
Elly Matte, Kigezi regional police spokesperson in a statement said that three people from the same family aboard a Raum car died on spot, while five other family members sustained critical injuries following a head on collision with a commuter passenger taxi at Kakatunda, along Kabale-Mbarara Highway.
At least seven people traveling in a commuter taxi were also critically injured and rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
The traffic police last week issued strict guidelines including avoiding over speeding, over loading and drink driving to reduce road accidents during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
Uganda registers at least 20,000 accidents with over 2,000 deaths each year, making it one of the countries with the highest road accident fatality rates in the world, according to police figures. Enditem
