A traditional leader from Zambezi district in northwestern Zambia said on Monday that Chinese rice growers are welcome to invest in his chiefdom in order to increase production.
Senior Chief Ndungu said Chinese farmers should consider investing in the district.
“There are abundant water resources for rice growing in Zambezi district and the local peasant farmers cultivate the crop for consumption,” he told Xinhua.
Chief Ndungu said China is dependent on rice cultivation and growing rice on commercial basis by Chinese will help increase the national food production in Zambia.
Chinese have the skills and technology to enhance rice growing in Northwestern Zambia he added.
“Chinese staple food is rice and the Chinese farmers can grow rice on commercial production to increase on the national food basket for Zambia,” he said.
The traditional leader said Chinese were welcome to establish farms in the district, because of the abundant water.
He observed that foreign investors, such as the Chinese should spread their tentacles into the rural Zambia to foster economic development to benefit the citizenry. Enditem
