Traffic accident in Sudan kills 9 and injures 13

Road Crash

Nine people were killed and 13 others injured on Monday in a traffic accident in Sudan’s White Nile State, according to the Sudanese police.

“The accident took place on the Assalaya section of White Nile Road near the Houtiya area,” the police press office said in a statement. The accident occurred when a passenger bus heading from the Jabal Awliya locality in the capital Khartoum to Rabak town in White Nile State collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction, the statement said. “Nine people were killed on the spot, and five others were seriously injured, while eight people suffered minor injuries,” it noted. The roads linking Khartoum and other states have recently been having traffic congestion due to the increasing rates of displacement of citizens from the capital due to continued military clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.

More than 12,000 people had been killed in the civil conflict since its onset on April 15, 2023, according to a statement by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in December last year.
