Troops kill prominent Boko Haram leader in Nigeria

The Nigerian Army said on Monday that troops of 25 Task Force Brigade have killed three suspected Boko Haram members, including its leader in Bulayaga area of Borno.


A statement from the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, said the suspected terrorists were killed following operations by the army to rid the society of all known Boko Haram terrorists’ enclaves and hideouts.

Usman, a colonel, said the operation followed a tip off and follow up by a fighting patrol on the Damboa-Njaba-Bale road in northeast Borno State.

“The troops encountered and killed three suspected Boko Haram terrorists who had been terrorizing the communities around Sabon Gari and Damboa.”

“Among those killed was the terrorists Ameer in Bulayaga. The Ameer was notorious in terrorizing Bale, Wass and Mufurundi villages.”

He said the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle with its magazine, 43 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one grinding machine and five dane guns.

Usman listed other recovered items to include seven motorcycles and 21 bags of grains. He added that troops of 7 Division Garrison on patrol at Mainari village in Mafa Local Government Area attacked some fleeing Boko Haram terrorists in the area.

He said the encounter led to the killing of nine terrorists and recovery of weapons which included four AK-47 rifle and one pump action gun. Enditem
