Tropical Cyclone Eloise is expected to hit Botswana and bring heavy rains next week, warned Botswana Meteorological Services on Friday.
According to a press release from the department, the cyclone is currently over the Mozambique Channel. The remnants of the cyclone will be felt over eastern Botswana starting on Sunday spreading into other areas of the country from Monday.
The tropical depression is expected to cause widespread rainfall with occasional heavy falls, strong winds and lightning over most parts of the country during the week. The release further says due to the heavy falls, there is a possibility of localised flooding in some places, therefore warning the public to take necessary precaution.
The cyclone follows closely on the heels of another tropical cyclone Chalane that followed an almost similar path at the end of December 2020. The cyclone caused heavy rainfalls in the north and north-eastern parts of Botswana leaving some places flooding. Enditem
