About 80 contractors in the oil and gas industry have received training to enhance their capacity and commitment in occupational safety to prevent injury, and protect assets as well as the environment.

Organised by Tullow Ghana and Petroleum Commission, the workshop covered the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) requirements, local content requirements and the promotion of good occupational health.

Other topics covered included contracts and procurement processes, technical requirements, environment, health and safety evaluations, and due diligence requirements.

On ethics and compliance, the participants were educated on due diligence requirements and expectations from contractors in the execution of work.

The workshop, which was to provide the contractors with adequate information on security and man guarding services, was in line with Tullow’s deep-rooted commitment to support Ghanaian suppliers and subcontractors in the oil and gas industry.

Dr Jennifer Bruce-Konuah, Local Content Manager, Tullow Ghana, said that the Company’s collaboration with the Commission on local capacity development was partly aligned with the Government’s local content delivery targets.

“The workshop aimed at building the capacity of local companies, demonstrating transparency in the contracts and procurement processes, and highlighting key requirements for companies who want to provide security and man guarding services for Tullow Ghana,” she said.

Mr Kwaku Boateng, Local Content Director, Petroleum Commission, expressed appreciation to Tullow for the partnership and for taking practical steps to deepen local content participation by supporting indigenous companies.

“The Petroleum Commission is committed to ensuring that the government’s local content agenda in the extractive industry is implemented and benefits local companies,” he stated.
