Mr. Hussein Al Musallam, Director-General/Technical Director of the Olympic Committee of Asia (OCA), has stated that, Turkmenistan has what it takes to host the Olympic Games in future.
Turkmenistan successfully organized an impressive opening ceremony and has so far staged smooth competitions all over the venues in the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games – an impression many think puts the country in the right position to host the global event.
“I have been an athlete before and participated in several international events, I have not seen a detailed sports facility like what I have seen here in Turkmenistan.
“It is a compact sports complex in a clean city. This facility can host a lot of competitions including the Olympic Games and can host the rest of the world.” He stated.
He however noted that, the country has to evaluate what they can do after the Games and take a decision on the future in sports.
Mr. Al Musallam however commended Turkmenistan for putting up the magnificent Olympic Stadium and sports complex saying the facilities are investments into the future of the country.
“Ashgabat has seen a tremendous development through the hosting of the Games. They are real investments for the future of the country. It is not just about sports but for the general development of the country”. He stated.
The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, entered the 5th day on Thursday with the host Turkmenistan, bagging 130 medals followed by Iran and Thailand with 42 and 31 medals respectively.
