Regional Police Commander Prudenciana Protas confirmed the accident, saying it occurred at around 8:00 p.m. local time in Lilombwi area, along the Makambako-Songea highway, some 700 kilometers from Dar es Salaam.
She said the driver of bus, which was heading to Songea Municipality from Dar es Salaam, was speeding, resulting in him losing control of the bus which then rolled three times before landing on its roof.
The driver however fled the scene, and the police have mounted a search to arrest him.
According to Protas, the injured people were rushed at the Kibena Regional Hospital for observation and treatment.
Makambako-Songea highway is one of the Tanzania’s roads which are prone to accidents as the highway has many sharp corners and steep slopes. Enditem
