Twelve presidential candidates, each representing a unique perspective and vision, have submitted their nomination forms to the Electoral Commission (EC) for the upcoming general election on December 7, 2024.
This diverse group includes representatives from various political parties and twelve independent contenders.
Out of 39 individuals who initially obtained passcodes to complete the presidential nomination process, 24 have submitted their forms by the close of business last Friday.
However, two candidates submitted their forms after the official deadline of 5 PM, and their eligibility is pending a decision by the EC.
Among the candidates representing political parties are Dr Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), and Hassan Abdulai Ayariga of the All People’s Congress (APC).
Additional party candidates include Mohammed Frimpong of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Akua Donkor of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Nana Akosua Frimpomaa Sarpong-Kumankumah of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Janet Asana Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP), Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Daniel Augustus Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), and Kofi Asamoah Siaw of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
Independent candidates include Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, Nana Kwame Bediako, Samuel Apea-Danquah, George Twum Barimah-Adu, Kofi Koranteng, Desmond Abrefah, Nana Stephens Adjepong, Paul Perkoh, James Kwesi Oppong, John Enyonam Kwakwu Kpikpi, Dr. Samuel Sampong Ankrah, and Nii Amu Darko.
The EC, which opened nomination filings from September 9 to September 13, 2024, is now meticulously vetting the applications to ensure all candidates meet the legal requirements, thereby upholding the integrity of the upcoming election.
According to the electoral calendar, the balloting for presidential candidates is scheduled for September 23, 2024, and the balloting for parliamentary positions is set for September 24, 2024.
