Two chiefs fail to appear before court

The Agona Swedru Circuit Court has issued bench warrant for the arrest of the two chiefs from Gomoa Kweikrom, near Winneba for failing to appear before it over unlawful destoolment and damage to property.

They are Abusuapanyin, Kwadwo Afrim., Farmer and Ohenemaa Gyanwaa also a Farmer.

Six other chiefs who are facing similar charges have been granted bail in the sum of GH₡ 40,000 each with three sureties and they would re-appear on December 16.

They are Nana Kweku Gyan, Farmer, Abusuapanyin, Nana Arko Ashiro, Businessman, Evans Hackman; Block maker, Nana Kwabena Gyan, Block maker, Nana Kofi Akroma VII, Farmer, Okyeame Kwesi Owusu; Farmer and Abusuapanyin Kofi Andoh.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Opoku Mensah told the Court presided over Ms Abigail Anima Asare that on January 17, the first accused Nana Kwaku Gyan, Farmer, Abusuapanyin and second accused Ohenmaa Gyanwaa brought a letter to the complaint and informed him of a meeting.

The prosecution said Nana Kwei , Odikro of Gomoa Kweikrom,who is the complainant after reading the contents of the letter told the first and second accused persons that the agenda of the proposed meeting was a matter before the High Court (2) in Cape Coast.

Chief Inspector Mensah said the complainant said the meeting the accused persons wanted to deliberate over the same matter constitutes contempt of court.

He stated that on January 24 at about 0900 hours the first and second accused led the other accused persons to the complainants Palace at Gomoa Kweikrom purported to have a meeting with him.

The prosecution said, the complainant on seeing the accused persons became frightened and told accused persons that he was attending to nature’s call behind the Palace and escaped.

He stated that the accused persons therefore summoned a meeting in the centre of the town at a place called” Posubanho” and pronounced the destoolment of the complaint as chief.

Chief Inspector Mensah said soon after the pronouncement, the complainant’s palace was vandalised by the accused persons with all the furniture, windows, regalia and some personal belongings belonged to the chief damaged.

According to the prosecution, a report was made to the police by the complainant in Winneba District Police Command.

On February 2 the accused persons were arrested for questing .during the Interrogations all the accused persons denied their involvement in the vandalisation of the complainant’s palace but admitted having summoned a meeting and made pronouncement of the complainant’s destoolment.

Chief Inspector Mensah said upon completion of the investigations the accused persons were arraigned.
