Two killed in landslide in southern Ivory Coast

Two people died on Tuesday night following a landslide that occurred at an illegal gold mine in Cote d'Ivoire's southern region of Diabykro, a security source said Wednesday.

The two, Sombie Oumar and Hebie Moussa, died when they entered a gold mine at night in search of gold.

Several of their colleagues, with whom they were at the site, tried to rescue them but in vain.

Cote d’Ivoire continues to face the challenge of illegal gold mines that lead to deaths either through landslides or through ethnic clashes.

On June 7, a landslide at another illegal gold mining site at Tienko in the northwest parts of the country left three people dead and several others injured. Enditem
