Global Communities and MasterCard Foundation both Non Governmental Organisations, are embarking on the training which would train 23,700 youth in two other regions.
The two NGOs are implementing a five year project dubbed: “Youth inclusive entrepreneurial development for employment” in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Area.
Mr Maxwell Agyei Ashon, a coordinator on the project, said at the first stakeholder training workshop that the selected youths would be taken through free training in technical skills and entrepreneurship.
He said the project would work with youths between the ages of 17-24 who are out of school and unemployed and are interested in working in the construction industry.
Mr Ashon said successful applicants would be trained in landscaping, wielding, painting, iron work, glazing and heavy equipment operation.
The rest are: electrical, dredging, decoration, upholstery, roofing, plastering and pop fitting.
Mr Francis Asante Nsiah, City Coordinator for the Artisans Association of Ghana, one of the Partners of the project, said the group had identified master craft men and women within the assembly who would offer the training in partnership with the Opportunity Industrialization Centre.
Ms Millicent Worae, Counsellor on the project, urged Ghanaians to own and project, participate fully and gain an employable skill.
Mr Lawrence Arkomah, Takoradi Branch Manager of HFC, said the bank has developed two new savings and loans products- “Boafo ye na” and the group savings and “Boafo Ye Na” loans and group loans, to help the trainees to establish their own businesses.
