Nigerian police on Thursday confirmed two policemen were shot dead by gunmen following an attack on a police station in the country’s southeastern state of Anambra.

The divisional police station in Obosi, a town in the Idemili North local government area of the state, was also razed during the attack early Thursday, said Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the police in Anambra.

The attack is coming on the heels of several recent attacks targeting police stations in the Nigerian southeast region.

Ikenga said the police have dispatched a tactical team for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage on the divisional police station Thursday.

“The team was equally told to possibly identify and apprehend the hoodlums that perpetrated the attack,” Ikenga said, adding that the bodies of the two policemen had been deposited at a nearby morgue. Enditem
