Two people were shot and a house set on fire Saturday morning near 38th Street and Forest Manor Avenue on the city?s Northeastside, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

IMPD and Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a call for a house fire paired with shots fired around 6:40 a.m. in the 3700 block of Forest Manor Avenue, police said.

Officers found a woman and her adult son with gunshot wounds at the residence, IMPD said. The victims, Shanna Ford, 43, and Zachary Joseph, 23, were taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital and were in serious condition, according to Indianapolis Fire Department officials.

The fire quickly spread from the rear of the home to the attic, IFD said. After seeing flames on their rear porch, Ford and Joseph ran into the front yard where the shooting took place. The victims woke up neighbors to call for help.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 25 minutes at the two-story, brick residence. Damages were estimated at $60,000, according to IFD Battalion Chief James McNair.

Police said a witness described a man fleeing the scene in a dark-colored sedan. Detectives are still searching the neighborhood for the suspect.
