A police spokesperson said on Saturday that two people were kidnapped in a gunmen attack in Nigeria’s central state of Niger on Wednesday.
Wasiu Abiodun, the police spokesperson in the state, who disclosed this to reporters in Minna, the state capital, said the villagers were kidnapped in the gunmen’s attack on the Doma village in the Lapai local government area on Wednesday.
“Unfortunately, the police tactical team, with some vigilante members who were on a rescue operation, engaged the kidnappers while one of the vigilante members lost his life,” Abiodun said.
He said the police teams were on the trail of the hoodlums to apprehend them.
Abiodun appealed to residents, especially rural dwellers, to remain calm, as the police and other security agencies would not relent in the ongoing fight against banditry.
He called for support for security agencies by giving intelligence information that could aid in apprehending criminal elements in the state. Enditem
