USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier will come into the Busan port to participate in the Foal Eagle field training exercises, the U.S.-South Korea combined forces command was quoted by Yonhap as saying.

The joint war games, which kicked off on March 1, are set to last by the end of next month, mobilizing multiple U.S. strategic assets including the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and its attendant fleet.

About 10,000 U.S. troops, including U.S. Forces Korea (USFK), will be mobilized for the drill together with 290,000 South Korean soldiers.

The Key Resolve command post exercise based on computer simulation is scheduled to begin on March 13 for a two-week run.

Other strategic assets to be brought to the drill would be F-35B stealth fighter jets that were deployed in the U.S. military base in Japan in January.

The large-scale war games caused strong backlash from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, which denounced them as a dress rehearsal for northward invasion. Enditem
