The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has so far invested 1 trillion dirhams (roughly 270 billion U.S. dollars) in airport infrastructure development projects, the official news agency WAM reported Wednesday.

“These investments span development projects across the country a fleet of 884 commercial aircraft,” Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director general of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, said in a statement.

He said the aviation sector is experiencing significant and rapid growth in air transport, as well as airport construction and expansion, leading to the growth of regional and global economies.

Suwaidi’s remarks came ahead of the upcoming Global Investment in Aviation Summit, GIAS 2020, scheduled on Jan. 27-29 in Dubai. Enditem
