Uganda acquires bomb disposal equipment in renewed terror fight

The Ugandan military on Friday acquired bomb disposal equipment to enhance its operational capabilities in a renewed terror fight.

The equipment donated by the U.S. government includes Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) training equipment and a robotic EOD system known as the Packbot 501.

UgandaCol. Ronald Miller, a senior defense official at the U.S. embassy here said in a statement that the equipment will increase the Ugandan military’s training and mission capabilities for peacekeeping operations.

Uganda currently has peacekeeping troops in war torn Somalia where they face bomb attacks from militants.
The Packbot 501 performs a host of functions, ranging from traditional bomb disposal to handling hazardous materials.

It can also adapt to specific mission sets, climb stairs, and transmit real-time video to its operators, who can remain at a safe distance from any lethal device or situation. Enditem
