Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday awarded visiting Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed with a top medal of honor for his distinguished service to Ethiopia and the African continent.
Museveni bestowed Abiy with the Most Excellent Order of “The Pearl of Africa, Grand Master Medal” at a function to celebrate Ugandan heroes held in the western district of Kakumiro.
Abiy, who was the chief guest, said Ethiopia and Uganda enjoy long-standing bilateral cooperation.
“My country highly treasures its relations with the people and government of Uganda. Our relation is built on a solid foundation of mutual respect, cooperation and non-interference in internal affairs of each other,” said Abiy.
The medal is awarded to heads of state who have made a contribution towards the independence struggle in the Africa continent.
Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Equatorial Guinea’s leader Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo are some of the African leaders to whom the East African country has given the medal. Enditem
