Uganda’s ministry of health on Thursday said the country recorded 1,438 new cases of COVID-19, the highest daily increase in the second wave of the virus, bringing the total national count of infections to 56,949.

Out of the 8,478 samples collected on Tuesday, 1,438 contacts and alert cases tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the ministry said in a statement.
A total of 852 cases were reported in the capital, Kampala, the current epicenter of the sustained second wave of the virus.

The statement said a total of 47,760 recoveries and 402 deaths have been registered since the index case was reported in March last year.

At least 757,664 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 using AstraZeneca vaccine, according to the ministry figures. Enditem
