Ugandan military set to mark 39th founding anniversary


The Ugandan military is set to mark the 39th founding anniversary where the military will engage in several civil military relations activities.

The military in a statement issued here on Tuesday said the main activities are slated to start on Jan. 28 in the four district of Luwero, Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Wakiso in the central part of the East African country.

“This area has been chosen because of the historical role the people played during the 1981-1986 protracted people’s struggle to liberate Uganda,” the statement issued by the military spokesman’s office said.

The activities that will culminate on Feb. 6, the day the then rebel group, now national army launched the fight, will be marked under the theme, ‘Consolidating the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces strategic partnership with the people to guard gains of liberation’.

The civil military activities include cleaning of urban centers, tree planting, engineering works and medical camps among others.

The Ugandan military has been deployed on several foreign missions. It provides the bulk of the African Union peacekeeping force in Somalia. Enditem
