Museveni, according to a State House statement issued on Monday said a stronger coordination mechanism at the highest international level possible is critical and should involve neutral and mutually agreeable former heads of states.

“For armed conflicts, we should have former heads of State involved. In Burundi we survived because we had former President Julius Nyerere and President Mandela involved,” he said.

Nelson Mandela is former South African leader while Nyerere is form Tanzanian president.

Museveni said this in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Sunday while meeting the UN Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson at the sidelines of an ongoing regional meeting to end the conflict in South Sudan.
Eliasson said he would push for a higher level of engagement. Enditem
