Ugandan Volleyball team gears up for All Africa Games

Uganda will compete against Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Egypt and Ethiopia in the sub-zone qualifiers at the MTN Arena, Lugogo starting on April 21.

Kenya and Egypt pause the biggest threats to Uganda but Ssenyondo said that speed and tactical service are Uganda?s weapons in a bid to qualify for the All Africa Games.

?We hope to get the girls to do a few consistent things especially with our service and speed on attack coupled with the home support to give them confidence. We think we can contain Ethiopia as well because they have not been playing the game of late,? Ssenyondo explained.

The Uganda women national volleyball team resumes training on Wednesday but Irene Amoding and Grace Akiror are doubtful for the CAVB sub-zone five 2015 All Africa Games qualifiers.

The two centre players have suffered knee injuries while on their respective club duties and assistant coach Godwin Ssenyondo said that the players may not recover in time for the competitions due to start in Kampala on April 21.

The players expected in camp on Wednesday include setters Winnie Nakabuubi and Adella Asiimire. Centre players Zaina Kagoya, Christine Alupo, Saidat Nnungi and Ester Tumwebaze. Outside hitters Astreede Agaaba, Maureen Mwamula, Irene Amoding, Grace Akiror, Josephine Nammanda, Eunice Amuron, Peace Busingye, Margret Namyalo and libero Flavia Nandawula.

The men will have to wait until May when they take part in the same competition in Kigali, Rwanda.
