We live in silence
Our thoughts have been enslaved in naivety
With our bodies wrapped in fear
Anxiety is now our close friend

We have been entangled in the web of our idols
We live in their shadow
Blinded with vain promises
Promises that died before it was brought forth
Yet we dimly believed in them

Free us from mental dirtiness
Free us from myopic deficiencies
Free us from the lies of yesterday
Corrupt practices of today
And apprehensions of tomorrow

We have eyes yet blind
We are free
Yet bound in chains
We shout Uhuru
But afraid of stepping out

No chains
No shackles
No handcuffs
Yet we are slaves
Slaves to ourselves
Slaves to our dirtiness

Our minds are blocked
Visions locked
We only talk
Losing sight of the ticking clock
We shout Uhuru
But of afraid of stepping out

Why then do we complain?
Why do we boast of our freedom when we enjoy being beggars?
Why do we boast of our freedom when we live in the pocket of others?

No chains
No shackles
No handcuffs
Yet we are slaves
Slaves to ourselves
Slaves to our dirtiness

Drum Beat
Drum Beat

We prayed for natural resources
Gold, Diamond, cocoa, crude oil, Timber, Manganese
We were heavily endowed
Yet we pray for a panacea
Losing sight of our own abilities
We need nothing but ourselves
Dig deep, for the solution we are looking for
Lies within us
We shout Uhuru
Uhuru is freedom
But freedom is not a song
Freedom is what you feel within
