The President of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces will pay an official four-day visit to Ghana from May 8 to May 11, the UN Information Center said in a release on Tuesday.

While in Ghana, Espinosa will hold bilateral meetings with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Speaker of Parliament Aaron Mike Ocquaye, senior government officials, high-level ministerial committee on the SDGs as well as civil society and UN officials.

Espinosa’s visit highlights Ghana’s leadership role and support for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and emphasizes the importance of strengthening the multilateral system as the best option for responding to global crises and challenges.

She is expected to address the role of parliaments in building political will for the implementation of global commitments crucial for effective responses to climate change, maintenance of peace and security, among others, to achieve the SDGs. Enditem
