UN resident coordinator stresses private sector’s role in Namibia’s economic growth

United Nations resident coordinator Kiki Gbeho said Friday here said that the private sector should be commended for its contribution to Namibia’s economic development.

“The UN, Namibia’s long standing and entrusted partner is conscious and appreciative of the role that private sector has played in situating Namibia where it is today,” said the UN official at an engagement on how businesses can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Private sector has contributed through its innovation, skills and investment enabled productivity, increased employment and accelerated development in Namibia,” Gbeho said.

She added Namibia has effectively used the SDGs which were introduced through the 2015 launched Agenda 2030 to enhance its economy.

“Namibia has played an active role in crafting these goals. Namibia officially launched the domestication of the SDGs in June of 2016 and now mainstreamed the SDGs into the NDP5 (National Developmental Plan 5),” she added. Enditem
