Big League side Victoria University posted the upset of the day when they eliminated reigning Bell Uganda Cup champions Simba 4-3 on spot kicks at Bombo Barracks yesterday.

Normal time had ended 1-1 courtesy of Simba’s Sula Ssebunza strike and Victoria’s Patrick Owori goal but Fred Kajoba’s outfit, who beat URA 2-1 in last season’s final, could only convert three of their kicks and the visitors scoring one more.

“Playing with Simba was a honour and a challenge to us. The game was fair and we consider the victory as a step forward in our football professional,” said Victoria head coach Ivan Zoric.

At the Makerere University Business School (Mubs) ground, URA scored three second half goals to power off a challenge from Big League side Sadolin.

Augustine Nsumba, a Benson Ociti penalty and a 90th minute header from Robert Ssentongo were enough for Alex Isabirye’s side to progress to the round of 32.

Up north, goals from Martin Muwanga, Kizito Luwaga, Tony Odur and Caesar Okhuti handed Edward Golola’s Bunnamwaya a convincing 4-1 win over lower side Rising Stars.

SC Villa could only do a kick-about at Nakivubo after Kwania failed to travel for the match. Should their reasons not satisfy the competitions committee, Mike Mutebi’s Jogoos will be handed a bye to the next round.
