Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Ghana has held its end-of-year Assembly /Ambassador for Peace Awards night in Accra.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Helen Osei, National Secretary-General of the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) Ghana, noted that the End of Year Assembly is a yearly event that brings members together to review the organization’s activities.

Adding that, this year they thought it wise to add an Awards Night in order to honour individuals who have been working tirelessly to promote global peace.

“In all 17 distinguished personalities have been honoured as peace ambassadors by the Universal Peace Federation, UPF-Ghana.

The awardees were recognized in five categories: Ambassador for Peace, Merit Ambassador for Peace, Patron Ambassador for Peace, Long Service Award, and Crown of Peace Award for their tireless efforts to promote and consolidate peace in Ghana.

Notable among the awardees were, Cletus Avorka, Member of Parliament for Zebilla, madam Dela Sowah, Member of Parliament for Kpando, Azumah Nelson, three-time world boxing champion, Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adusi also known as Bola Ray, media personality, Kwame Bamfo Ofosu among others,” she explained.

Dr. Helen Osei, on the other hand, urged everyone, especially the newly appointed ambassadors, not to abandon the goal of promoting peace in the country after receiving the award.

The Chairman of UFP Ghana, Fuseini Adongo, also stated that the long-cherished dream of a peaceful world would be accomplished only by individuals overcoming racial, religious, ethnic, and tribal barriers.

Stressing that peace is the most precious gift a nation can have. Noting that without peace, humans cannot live to their full potential and abilities.

This he said, UPF which emerged from the foundation of the interreligious and International Federation for World Peace about 20 years ago has become a force to reckon with.

This he said, not only in Ghana but globally especially in areas such as Peacebuilding, leadership, and sustainable development.

“We supported the UN Millennium development goals a few years ago and we are not relenting in our efforts to support the sustainable development goals.

Our ideals are primarily built around interdependence, mutual prosperity, and universally shared values; taking into consideration that the United Nations need reformation,” he stated.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, applauded the awardees who have distinguished themselves in their respective endeavors in trying to make the world a better place to live in and assured them of his support for the UPF.

He lauded UPF for championing peace around the world, which he believes is laudable, and urged them to capitalize on current concerns and enthusiasm in promoting peace to deepen their agenda.

Mr. Bagbin urged the federation to be concerned with antecedents to global peace, such as pervasive corruption, social inequities, economic mismanagement, and nepotism, among others, which disrupt the stability of states, particularly in Africa.
