The Women Community in Africa (WCA) has congratulated Hon. Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun on her appointment as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria. She is only the second woman to hold this esteemed position in the country’s history.
Dr Adetoun Dally, Global President of WCA, praised the appointment, stating, “Women are making their impact felt in all spheres of human endeavours, especially when principles of fair play are at work.
This is not a competition with men but a crucial opportunity to integrate the female perspective for a balanced and more comprehensive outlook.
We are inspired by our trailblazers who are making significant impacts on society. Congratulations to the Chief Justice of our Nation from all of us at Women Community in Africa.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu swore in Hon. Justice Kekere-Ekun at the Aso Villa following her nomination and recommendation by the National Judicial Council.
Her appointment follows the retirement of Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired at the age of 70.
Justice Kekere-Ekun will serve in an acting capacity pending confirmation of her appointment by the Nigerian Senate.
Dr. Adetoun Dally urged the new acting Chief Justice to uphold the principles of separation of powers, enhance the judiciary’s image, and maintain the rule of law.
